OLIN PORTER

I've called Eugene, Oregon my home for the last 25+ years. I went to school here, I started my business here, a family here... and I love it!

After building the house with my dad shortly after high school, I decided I wanted to continue learning more about construction and got a job framing houses with a local company where a couple of friends were working. A couple of years later one of them started their own business and I joined him. We built a lot of houses together and I learned a lot from him. Years later I started working with another friend who was more into remodels and finish carpentry and the "big picture" of what it really takes to put a whole house together from beginning to end... and I learned a lot from him. He moved to Portland, so I started my own Contracting business as a general contractor. I kept building, taught myself how to use a 3D modeling software, and I learned a lot. After about 8-9 years I took a short break from contracting and worked in a wood shop for a couple of years doing cabinetry and working with a fine furniture builder when I had time... and I learned a lot, but missed Contracting, and building the relationships with home owners. Through a mutual friend I met, and started working with, a big local construction company as a Project Manager and Designer. It felt great to be part of a team,  I met some great people including Tom, who would soon be my business partner, and I learned a lot. But, I missed running my own business.

With the recent arrival of my daughter and son, I decided that I was going to be happier working for myself again and be able to manage my time, and my work/life balance. This enabled me to be able to spend some amazing time off after the birth of my son and prepare to launch Porter House Design and Build. I'm excited to take everything I've learned during the last 20+ years and put it into something I'm so passionate about.
